A Cross-Sectional Study of University Nursing Students Construal Level and Core Values in Learning English as Foreign Language in Taiwan

Professional nursing core values are important for education and clinical practice. Among the values, communication is a crucial one, learning languages especially beneficial to this skill. However, in language rarely discussed field. This study attempts explore perceived by university students when English as foreign language. A cross-sectional survey of students’ construal levels perceptions their was designed. Two instruments Behavior Identification Form Learning Construal Scale were used collect data. Descriptive statistics content analysis conducted analyze quantitative qualitative data respectively. In total, 200 participants randomly recruited from Taiwan. The results show BIF (M = 15.02; SD 4.02) corresponded previous research, although scores implied an improvement opportunity. Four themes—career development, studies, self-responsibly, personal well-beings—were illustrated, 13 codes further categorized. An alternative perspective high vs. low suggested view professional values. Teaching implications then discussed.
